Dad’s Coin Collection

My dad took out his coin collection today and spent some time with my daughter and I looking and enjoying his ever growing collection that he is so proud of. It isn’t often that someone expresses an interest in this collection and he was so very happy to take the time to share it with us today.

He has coins from all over the place, old and new. His favorites (which just tickles me to pieces) are the silver rounds that I have purchased for him each and every birthday, Father’s Day and Christmas. Hey when you find something good you just gotta run with it, right?

Have a Nice Christmas

Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

I am exhausted and still have a handful of presents to wrap before I can go to bed. Tomorrow will be a busy day. Looking forward to a few hours with my sister’s family and then a visit to the nursing home to share a nice dinner with my granny and my mom. The food is actually very good – and I don’t have to cook it or clean up afterward.

Then I will go to my brother’s house and hang out for a while with the whole fam damily. I always enjoy watching his kids play with their toys and games. They are so competitive but have learned to be good sports and are very generous with sharing their toys as well as their expertise on the different video games.

Mother’s Kitchen

It’s good to see that the enclume pot rack that I bought my mother several years ago was such a hit for her and her kitchen that I have been spending a good amount of time in this last week. My mother has always taken such pride in her cooking and now that she hasn’t been up to doing much of anything I have been trying to fill her shoes to the best of my ability and without dishonoring her along the way.

My mother’s kitchen has never been big enough to keep her happy so one year I decided to look at those enclume pot racks that are all the rage these days, so that she could hang up a good amount of her pots and pans on it and use her precious cabinets for other necessary things for today’s busy cooks in their kitchens. I was glad to find a good selection of enclume potracks online at that time and got them just in time to give to her for Christmas that year. She was so totally thrilled and made me very proud of my choice for that particular gift giving holiday.

Divine Twine

For the past several months I drive my sister to her singing/voice lessons which in the part of town that has a good amount of quaint small town locally owned businesses, right at the far end of old town. If I forget to bring something to read and the weather isn’t being user friendly, I always have the option of taking a nice stroll around the few city blocks and enjoying the sights, the smell and the whole “warm and fuzzy” feeling that one gets when walking in the part of town that is just reeking of history, generations after generations of families who worked so hard to make a name for them selves in town and have managed to hold onto their small piece of the world through the good times as well as the bad times.

One of my favorite shops is all about crafts with various twines and paper goods along with packaging and other interesting¬† baking tools and goods that today’s bakers can just go wild using on their baked goods! I have never been considered a good baker, but I’m not necessarily known for being the best either. I used to have a blast in the kitchen when my daughter was much younger and she actually wanted to spend time with me in the kitchen. Those days are long gone!

My all time favorite was to make and bake various types of Christmas cookies with her to give out to friends, neighbors, co workers and family members. We would even send a batch to school for her to give to her teacher as a holiday gift. We would use the recipe that my grandfather used from back in the day when he still lived in London as a boy. I have made sure that this recipe will never get lost and that it will forever be considered Grand Dad’s Special Christmas Cookies!

Stay At Home Mom to Entrepreneur

Guest post by Fran S

I’ve been a SAHM (Stay At Home Mom) for five years now, and I’m grateful for every minute I’ve been able to spend with my kids. No amount of work outside the home could ever fulfill me in the way that being a mom has. As my children are getting a little older now, though, I recently decided to start pursuing my dream of owning my own cupcake business and running it out of my home so that I can still spend quality time with my little ones. Let me tell you, it’s been hectic, frustrating and fraught with doubts from time to time, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding!

The truth is, with the right equipment and a gung-ho attitude, I’m certain that any SAHM could replicate what I’ve been doing. Once I decided to take the plunge, I knew I needed to keep my overhead low while still maintaining a professional look to my kitchen and to my products. I used the budget-friendly Culinary Depot to outfit my kitchen with the cake-baking accessories I needed, and I used word of mouth and free social media to start marketing my business. I’ve been so pleased by the support I’ve gotten, especially from other moms. I’m starting small with catering birthday parties and christenings, but I can already see the potential my business has for the future.
